Suicide blast in Lahore, 8 killed, scores injured LAHORE: Five policemen are reportedly dead while 20 others are feared injured as a suicide bomber exploded himself at Allama Iqbal town near Dubai roundabout in Lahore amid Independence Day celebrations, police sources said.

Bomb disposal squad and rescue teams have arrived on the spot meanwhile the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

According to eyewitnesses, suicide bomber came on a motorbike and blew himself up near the policemen standing at Dubai roundabout as the independence day celebrations were in full bloom.

Police and Rangers cordoned off entire area while security was beefed up in and around Iqbal Town after the blast.

Emergency was declared while police and law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert in Lahore.

Deceased include Sub-Inspector Jaffar Baloch, Head Constables Arif Malhi and a lady. Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced compensation of Rs.10 lacks for each bereaved policeman family and Rs. 3 lacks for civilian deaths.
