 Government to retaliate terrorism: Zardari
Updated at: 0218 PST,  Sunday, September 21, 2008
Government to retaliate terrorism: Zardari LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari in a late Saturday night address to the nation reiterated the firm resolve of the government to stand undeterred against terrorism.

“The government and the people of Pakistan cannot be terrorized by blasts and such attacks. Nobody will be allowed to challenge democracy, the solidarity of the country and the federation,” he said.

“If the cowards think they can terrorise the government and the people of Pakistan, I state we shall not retreat from fighting terrorism,” he said while referring to the suicide truck blast at the Marriott Hotel.

The president described it as unfortunate that such an act occurred on the day when democracy was restored in the country and an elected president had addressed the joint sitting of parliament.

He said the cowards could not digest this and committed this criminal act. He called upon all the political forces in the country to come forward and join the government in fighting terrorism.

The president said Pakistan is ours and we shall by the grace of Almighty Allah save it and take it forward on the path to democracy. He declared that we are not afraid of death and would wipe out terrorism from the country. He said that those who have committed this crime in the holy month of Ramazan cannot be called Muslims and have nothing to do with Islam.

The president condoled and assured the family members that the heirs of the martyred would be fully taken care of by the government. He said that he stood by all those who had lost their loved ones in this suicide blast.

He said he understood the pain the families of those killed were going through. He said he had gone through such agony when he lost his beloved wife Benazir Bhutto in the Liaquat Bagh incident last year, so he felt the pain of all the mothers, sisters and fathers who had lost their children today.
