Hyderbad: Dozen power feeders trip off-line after torrential rains
HYDERABAD: The heavy 70 millimeters downpour in various parts of Hyderabad Saturday not only badly disturbed the civic activities, but also exposed the capacity of drainage infrastructure and the civic institutions in meeting the challenges of monsoon rains- 2013.

Almost all low-lying areas of Hyderabad City, Latifabad and Qasimabad Talukas submerged in ankle high water while power went off at least 12 electricity feeders soon after rain started pouring at about 1.40 p.m.

A spokesman of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) Sadiq Kubar confirmed that at least 12 electricity feeders in the city had been shut down.

"Six of them tripped while six others were shut to avoid development of any fault," he said.

As a result of inundation of low lying areas including Phuleli, Paretabad, Liaquat Colony, Firdous Colony, Goods Naka, Qazi Qayoum Road, Haider Chowk, Koh-e-Noor Chowk, Station Road, Risala Road, Al-Raheem Centre, Dadan Shah Colony, Sarfraz Colony, Pathan Colony, Gharibabad Colony, Citizen Colony, Bhitai Nagar, Nasim Nagar, Wehdat Colony, GOR Colony, Autobahn Roads and different units of Latifabad, the citizens experienced great inconvenience in carrying out their routine activities.

According to Met Department, 70 millimeters downpour was recorded with maximum temperature of 31 Degree Centigrade and minimum 26 Degree Centigrade with 96 percent humidity on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on the directives of Commissioner Hyderabad Jamal Mustafa Syed, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Nawaz Soho has declared rain
emergency in the district with cancellation of leave of the employees of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Taluka Municipal Administration.

He directed the officers of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Water and Sanitation Agency to utilise all resources for early disposal of accumulated rainwater in low-lying areas of the district. (APP)
