BEL AIR: A U.S. man who told authorities he killed a man and ate his heart and parts of his brain has pleaded guilty but not criminally responsible to murder.
Alex Kinyua entered the plea Monday to first-degree murder in the 2012 death of a 37-year-old man from Ghana who was staying with Kinyua's family.
The 22-year-old Kinyua, a U.S. citizen originally from Kenya, admitted using a knife to kill and carve up Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie before eating his organs, the Harford County Sheriff's Office has said. Agyei-Kodie's body was found four days after he disappeared in May 2012.
Authorities say Kinyua ranted about "human sacrifices" on Facebook before the killing.
The judge said he had concerns about accepting Kinyua's plea but had to accept psychiatrists' determinations that he could not be held criminally responsible.
Kinyua has been held at the state's maximum-security psychiatric hospital. (AP)
