KARACHI: Zafar Baloch, a prominent leader of the banned People’s Amn Committee, was killed on Wednesday night along with an associate near Bizenjo Chowk in Lyari when hitmen riding motorcycles riddled them with bullets, Geo News reported.
The incident took place in the limits of Kalakot police. The police and PAC leaders said after after taking him to Lyari General Hospital, Zafar Baloch was moved to Aga Khan Hospital in critical condition.
SSP City Faisal Bashir Memon also confirmed the death of Zafar Baloch.
“Two men on a motorbike opened fired at Baloch and he was hit in the chest. His aide Muhammad Ali who also received multiple gunshot wounds died on the spot while Baloch died at the hospital,” he said.
MPA from Lyari Sania Naz Baloch condemned the killing of PAC leader Zafar Baloch and urged youth and supporters in Lyari to remain peaceful despite provocative act of terrorism.
Following the incident, all shops, eateries and businesses in entire Lyari area were closed and the whole area echoed with gunfire as armed men took to streets and fired in the air with semi and automatic automatic weapons.
Heavy contingents of police and Rangers along with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were deployed in different areas of Lyari and they were asked to remain on high alert in case of any retaliation by the gangsters.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali strongly condemned the attack on Zafar Baloch in Lyari and expressed sorrow and grief on his demise.
