KARACHI: An anti terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi issued a death warrant for convict Saulat Mirza on Wednesday, who will be hanged on March 19.
The death warrant was received by authorities in Machh jail, Balochistan today.
Earlier today, jail authorities in Karachi submitted a letter to the ATC requesting to issue the death warrant for Mirza, an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)
According to sources, Superintendent Karachi Central Jail filed the application in the ATC.
Sources said the application was filed after consultation with Governor Sindh Eshrat-ul-Ebad, Interior Ministry Chaudhry Nisar, and DG Rangers Sindh.
Mirza was sentenced to death by an ATC in May 1999 for murdering the managing director of the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.
He was moved to Machh jail in Balochistan in April 2014.
