ISLAMABAD: Hours after PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari criticized the government and armed forces of the country for alleged character assassination of his party, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday night said the former has tried to target the most important national institution to hide his own shortcomings.
In a statement issued here, the PML-N minister termed Zardari’s statement as “unfounded, inapt and offensive”.
“Targeting an institution that renders sacrifices is condemnable,” he said. “This type of politics is not only condemnable but also dangerous,” he added.
The former president, in his address to party workers and office bearers earlier in the day, had warned against character assassination of the PPP, saying if they started doing the same then no one would be spared including army generals.
Chaudhry Nisar, in his statement, went on to say that performance of the last PPP government was responsible of the declining popularity of the party, and not any institute. He said Zardari’s politics can badly damage the national institutions.
“No matter what Mr Zardari says … Pakistan’s armed forces and its leadership is highly respected by every Pakistani,” said the interior minister.
