KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the KANUPP-II and III power projects in Karachi after arriving in the city, where he is scheduled to chair a meeting of the Sindh Apex Committee later in the day.
The prime minister attended the concrete-pouring ceremony of the KANUPP-II and III nuclear power plants, the largest in the country, which will generate 1,100MW electricity each.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the premier said the foundations for the K-2 and K-3 projects were laid in November 2013 and that he was pleased at the timely start of the project.
"This project is an example of the healthy friendship between Pakistan and China. We are thankful for the continued support of Pakistan by the Chinese government," said the prime minister as he congratulated the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission on the timely start of the project.
The prime minister also spoke about the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) as well as the recent attacks that claimed the life of Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada in Shadi Khan and the one in Karachi that has left MQM leader Abdul Rasheed Godil fighting for his life. He added that terrorist activities and attacks will not stop the government’s mission.
