KARACHI: Rangers paramilitary personnel descended upon the Ziauddin Hospital in Nazimabad on Saturday and examined documents and data present in the administration department as well as the hospital's IT department.
According to sources, the rangers have taken CCTV video records from the hospital and have also detained Dr Yousuf Sattar the Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital. The paramilitary force also confiscated documents from the finance and IT department.
Later in the evening, maintenance in-charge of Ziauddin Hospital's Clifton branch was also detained in a raid by the Rangers.
The crackdown against Ziauddin Hospital has been continuing for the last four days and began with the detention of Dr. Asim Hussain the Chairman of the Ziauddin group of hospitals and the former petroleum minister.
Dr. Asim Hussain was remanded into Rangers custody for 90-days for investigating his role in money-laundering, 'china-cutting', extending financial support to terrorists and illegally issuing licenses for unlawful CNG stations across Sindh.
Chief Minister Sindh on Friday also expressed his displeasure over the detention of Dr. Asim Hussain who is a close friend of the PPP Co-Chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari. Reacting on Hussain’s arrest Qaim Ali Shah said the Director General Rangers being his subordinate, should have informed him about the action beforehand.
Earlier on Saturday Rangers were granted 90-day custody of multiple senior Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) officials for their involvement in aiding issuance of illegal CNG licenses.
