KARACHI: In a startling revelation about the new wave of violence in the city, a nexus of banned outfits and criminal elements has been unearthed that has been named ‘Channel-2’.
According to a Geo News investigative report on Thursday, proscribed organisations were behind the recent incidents of targeted killing in the metropolis.
There was solid evidence to support the report that one such outfit identifies the target while another group of professional killers carries out the attack.
Security sources said this new type of terrorism has been named ‘Channel-2’.
The report comes to fore in the wake of recent incidents of targeted killing in the Sindh capital in which two traffic police officials were gunned down near Sunday Bazaar on University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood on August 30.
Later on September 2, two more traffic constables lost their lives in a similar attack by armed motorcycle riders in Gulbai area.
The two attacks were followed by as many attacks on media personnel in which a Geo News DSNG came under attack at Bahadurabad on September 8. Technical engineer Arshad Ali Jaffery was martyred in the attack while driver of the DSNG received bullet wounds.
A day later, senior journalist Aftab Alam was gunned down by unidentified armed motorcyclists and two workers of a religious party lost their lives in North Karachi area.
