Foreign Office spokesperson urges India to do away with unsubstantiated allegations as they undermine efforts against terrorism

ISLAMABAD: The governments of Pakistan and India are in contact with each other to finalize the date for a meeting between the foreign secretaries of the two countries, the Pakistani Foreign Office said Thursday.

In his weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and favoured a cooperative approach to eliminate the menace from its soil and the region.

In response to a question about the joint statement issued during the French president's visit to India that urged only Pakistan to expedite the Mumbai attacks trial, the spokesman said terrorism was not only India's problem but also of Pakistan, the region and the world.

The spokesman said Pakistan had rendered enormous sacrifices while combating terrorism to make the world a safer and better place to live in. “Our sacrifices have been appreciated by the international community.”

He said it was important to do away with unsubstantiated allegations as it undermined the efforts against terrorism.

“We wish India to share the investigation into the Samjhota Express tragedy and expect it to share the report in this regard,” he said.

The spokesman added that Operation Zarb-e-Azb was being recognized as the biggest counter-terror offensive being conducted against terrorism by any single country in the world.

The spokesman added that the military operation would continue until its target of eliminating terrorism is fully achieved.
