KARACHI: Former Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon caused losses amounting to Rs5 billion to the national exchequer while distributing government advertisements, thus, an investigation is presently underway against him, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) told Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday.
A counsel of NAB said this in a reply submitted to the SHC after the court received an application from Sharjeel Memon.
The reply stated that a corruption of billions of rupees in the Sindh department of information has surfaced and the investigation is being conducted against him on a written complaint of one of its directors, Zeenat Jehan.
It also said that Sharjeel Memon approved publishing of advertisements worth Rs5 billion through five companies. Three out of the five billion were siphoned off, it added.
The NAB further said in its replay that names of Sharjeel Memon and Inam Akbar have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
