MOHALI: Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has rejected any reports about ‘groupings’ in the national team, saying that there was 'no substance' in the allegations.
Addressing a press conference here Thursday, Malik said the air of negativity which surrounds players has hampered team spirit.
“If Shahid Afridi wins the World Cup no one will be happier than me,” he said.
About rumours that the team is divided into several groups, Malik said that there was 'no substance' in the allegation and he did not want to comment on the issue.
He said that all the players want the team to win the match.
Talking about successful teams he said, “The top teams are successful because they have strong internal leagues. We, on the other hand, are not able to play with consistency.”
Praising bowler Mohammad Amir, he said his game is getting better every day. “Amir is an extraordinary bowler.”
On a question about the fact that the team was playing old fashioned cricket, he said, “If we were playing old fashioned cricket we would not have been able to score 180 or 200 runs.”
