KUALA LUMPUR: A quarter tonne snake that was found nestling on a building site —the longest ever captured in Malaysia — has died, officials said Tuesday.
The reticulated python was said to be eight-metre-long (26ft) and weighed 250 kilogrammes.
It died on Sunday after laying eggs, a civil defence spokesman told AFP.“We are so sad this happened,” he said.
“We have rescued many other snakes and animals before. We’re not sure why the snake died.We fed it mice with other meats and gave (it) water just like we gave other snakes in the past.”
The giant creature was discovered on Penang Island by construction workers.Curious locals flocked to the office over the weekend to catch a glimpse of the mighty reptile, The Star newspaper reported on its website.
The civil defence spokesman said the reptile was one of the longest found in Malaysia.
