Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan’s appointment as brand ambassador for the Incredible India campaign has come to a halt after his name appeared in the Panama Papers.
Reports suggested that the papers name two shipping firms registered under his name in the tax haven.
The leaks have put his selection as ambassador for the campaign under the cloud. However, officials of the campaign have not confirmed this news, the Times of India reported.
The Indian government’s campaign came under a storm earlier this year, when its ambassador Bollywood star, Amir Khan, remarked about the growing intolerance in India.
During an event he said that his wife was scared for his life and wanted the family to leave the country.
He was removed as ambassador for the campaign, which aims to produce a positive image of India so as to attract international tourists, Indian media reported.
