We cannot progress without keeping exemplary peace, says CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, addressing a ceremony for promoted police officers on Thursday, said Karachi operation will succeed only when Sindh police learn to stand on their own two feet.

Addressing participants at the ceremony held at Central Police Office today, CM Murad said peace in Karachi will only be possible when police are equipped with the training and expertise needed to enable peace and security in the region.

He called for a special budget to be allocated for police training, saying that the police needed more funding to carry out investigations more effectively.

CM Sindh said that there had been a gradual increase in police funding, pointing out that mere budget allocation is useless if money is not eventually spent toward the cause it is allocated for.

CM Murad further said that the promoted police officers had been assigned bigger responsibilities.

Discussing Karachi security situation, CM Murad said that there had been a visible drop in street crime incidents across the city during August. He however said that it was not possible to completely eradicate street crimes from the city.

“Street crimes cannot be eradicated but they can be controlled,” he said.

He promised that miscreants involved in August 22 attack on media offices in Karachi will be punished. He also said that investigation was underway in Amjad Sabri murder case.

CM Murad said that local government representatives would be allowed all the powers as per Sindh Local Government Act 2013, adding that no prisoner would be given special treatment by virtue of his designation.

He further said that encroachments would not be tolerated, pointing out that the administration had not just razed offices of political parties but also pulled down other buildings built illegally.

“I am the Chief Minister, it is my job to handle administrative affairs,” he said, adding that he is a politician and hence not separated from politics.

“We cannot progress without keeping exemplary peace in the region,” he said.
