ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said on Thursday that references were sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the basis of merit.
Ayaz Sadiq’s statement came in reaction to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s speech in Parliament in which Khan had criticized Sadiq stating that he did not consider him speaker anymore. According to Khan, Sadiq was not impartial on the issue of the references.
According to a statement, Sadiq said the ruling on the government and opposition references was made after documents were evaluated. He added that the ruling was made in accordance with the law and constitution.
Ayaz Sadiq made it clear that the ECP would decide on the references and had 90 days to do so.
