KARACHI: Sindh Police was out in full force to maintain law and order during the by-election for PS-127 rounding up multiple suspects involved in disturbing the peace. However in their attempts to be efficient the law enforcers often tend to become over-efficient.
Just such a incident took place when according to Geo News DSP Saudabad went out of his jurisdiction to make arrests; the action irked SP Shah Faisal Javed Zameer who demanded to know why the police party was operating out of jurisdiction.
According to protocol, when a police party is operating outside of its designated jurisdiction it needs to inform the concerned police station of the area it will be operating in.
However, at times and depending on the nature of the police action it is not always possible to inform the concerned police station and as a back up the area SSP is informed.
During Tuesday’s incident, it turns out that neither protocol was followed.
Playing down the incident while speaking to Geo.tv, SP Shah Faisal, Javed Zameer Farooqui said the police party was in fact operating within their area and were only passing through after making the arrests.
Interestingly, while the SP Shah Faisal only played down the incident, DSP Saudabad Raja Mehmood denied any involvement. When asked about the incident, he passed the blame onto SP Malir.
According to a source that wishes to remain anonymous, while the rules and protocols to be followed by police parties when operating outside their own jurisdiction are clear, they are rarely followed.
