KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Farooq Sattar on Friday reacted to party leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan’s arrest by SSP Malir Rao Anwar and called the act undemocratic.
He was talking to media in Karachi shortly after Hassan’s arrest and said that he kept on asking SSP Anwar for the arrest warrant, however, it was never showed to him.
Farooq Sattar highly condemned the incident and said that the matter is not related to statements from London but something else.
He said that the move shows animosity towards the political party.
Sattar said no weapons or documents were recovered from his residence. He added that his party was being cornered. "Already our mayor is in prison," he said.
"Khwaja Izhar was not a proclaimed offender till yesterday? Why is he wanted today?" he said.
He said that if such behaviour persisted then the party workers would present themselves for 'collective arrest'.
Farooq Sattar said that other political parties should also take lesson from the incident.
Meanwhile, SSP Anwar said that Izharul Hasan was wanted in different police stations of Malir district, adding that he has several cases registered against him.
Police had earlier today arrested MQM Pakistan leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hasan, although he was released after spending five hours in custody.
SSP Malir Rao Anwar confirmed conducting the raid. He said that police conducted an operation in Bufferzone area in search of Raees alias Mama and his accomplice.
