Buffon beats Messi and Ronaldo to 2016 Golden Foot Award

Gianluigi Buffon left behind Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney to win this year’s Golden Foot award – the international award which recognises outstanding achievements of players at least 28 years of age.

The Italian goalkeeper received the most fan votes from all around the world on social media to claim the Golden Foot award. Following tradition, Buffon, 38, left his handprints on the 'Champions Promenade' in Monaco after winning the award.

Previous winners include Samuel Eto'o (2015), Andres Iniesta (2014), Didier Drogba (2013), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2012), Ryan Giggs (2011) and Francesco Totti (2010).
