ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Andleeb Abbas was detained and later released by police.

Andleeb Abbas along with several party workers was detained from Corning Road just outside Bani Gala. Video showed Andleeb Abbas being dragged away by policewomen.

Police used tear gas shelling to disperse PTI workers present in the area.

Tweeting about the incident, PTI chief Imran Khan said it was shameful how police used tear gas shells and rubber bullets on the party’s Lahore leadership and then arrested Andleeb Abbas, Walid Iqbal, Hammad Azhar and others.

Earlier, Imran Khan speaking to journalists’ outside his Babi Gala residence said his workers were subjected to state terrorism.

He was referring to clashes which broke out between PTI workers and police at Burhan Interchange where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervaiz Khatak tried to lead a caravan of workers to Islamabad from Swabi. Police use tear gas shell to stop the PTI caravan.

The chairman said that expired tear gas shells were used by police. He added that his workers were unarmed and peaceful. “The treatment meted out to Pervaiz Khattak was how security forces respond to an enemy army,” he said, adding that traveling within the country was the chief minister’s constitutional right.

Imran Khan said he was being targeted for no reason and was literally put under house arrest with police outside his Bani Gala residence. He alleged that police did not allow his sister to visit him on Monday.
