Donald Trump’s statement proposing a ban on Muslims’ immigration to the US has disappeared from his website.

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on," Trump’s campaign had said on his website on December 7, 2015 following the San Bernardino shooting. "According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population."

The statement sparked controversy and drew criticism from all quarters of the country, eventually forcing Trump to tone down his initial suggestion. He then clarified that the ban should be on Muslims immigrating to the US from countries with demonstrated links to terrorism and not Muslims specifically.

The link, which remained intact until just ahead of the elections, now redirects to the campaign homepage.

Trump defied all odds to win the US Election 2016, shocking the US as well as the rest of the world and wrapping up perhaps the most charged and unpredictable race in American history. President-elect Trump will be the 45th president of the United States of America.
