December 25, which marks the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is being celebrated nationwide today.

In a graceful ceremony held at 8:30 AM at the Quaid’s Mausoleum in Karachi, with a slightly cool breeze gracing the place, Pakistan’s armed forces and dignitaries arrived to pay their tribute to Jinnah. In the background, the Pakistan Navy Band stood at the entrance, welcoming notables into the majestic, minimalistic marble structure, which is set in lush gardens and is visible from afar as the city’s studded jewel.

Once the distinguished guests had entered and the ceremony commenced, the change-of-guard-duties process took place. Responsibilities were handed over from cadets of Pakistan Air Force Academy – Risalpur to those of Pakistan Military Academy – Kakul.

The event’s chief guest was PMA Kakul Commandant Major General Abdullah Dogar, who spoke to the attendees and expressed his positive thoughts regarding the country and its future.

All three armed forces – Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force – offered Fatiha and decorated Quaid’s final resting place with garlands. Other prominent figures of Sindh and Pakistan, including DG Rangers Sindh, are also expected to arrive later in the day.

For those who have never visited the landmark or do not reside in Karachi, there is a comment book placed inside the mausoleum, where guests can pen down their experience and provide feedback. The tourist attraction is currently not open to public, but will be made accessible soon once the notables offer prayers and leave.

The day, which coincides with Christmas, is commemorated with celebrations across the country. Numerous educational institutes schedule events, such as plays, declamation contests, and music festivals, to remember Pakistan’s founder.

Festivities also extend to major buildings around the nation, which are adorned with twinkling lights, flags, and pictures of Jinnah. Many remember Quaid-e-Azam for his charismatic personality, impressive style, appealing dress sense, and unparalleled political strategy, for he was successful in creating a designated country for Muslims of the subcontinent.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi on December 25, 1876, to Poonja and Mithibai Jinnah. He was lawyer by profession, and joined All India Muslim League in 1913. The last major public event he attended was the inauguration of State Bank of Pakistan.

The founder died on September 11, 1948. His home, Quaid-e-Azam Residency in Ziarat, is still a reminder of his peaceful, yet commanding, personality.

It is a sunny day in Karachi, and winter is almost around the corner, which makes it a perfect setting for Pakistanis to pay a visit to Quaid’s Mausoleum.
