It was March 3rd, 2013, when a Suzuki loaded with hundreds of kilograms of explosives was detonated in a densely-populated residential area of Karachi, Abbas Town.
The attack, which extinguished 48 lives and injured 140, still haunts the residents of the area.
The attack involved outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and a case of the incident was forwarded to an Anti-terrorism court.
Slain Police officer SSP Chaudhry Aslam had arrested terrorists Khairuddin alias Mansoor, Mohammad Ishaq, Irfan, Inamullah, Bashirullah and Sher Alam Mehsoob in relation to the attack.
In the encounter in Manghopir, CTD had recovered 250 KG of explosives from terrorists. The officials had also recovered a VBIED weighing 150 kg explosives from the site of the encounter. According to the CTD officials, the Suzuki which was used in the Abbas town blast was from Karachi, but the explosives used were brought from Baluchistan via Hub.
The suspects were also involved in a blast in Landhi and a blast at a police check post in Site area. After the arrest of the suspects, and an initial investigation, the accused were handed over to theSachal investigation police where a case was registered and the investigation is in progress.
