TALAGANG: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won the by-election for Punjab Assembly's constituency PP-23 Talagang by securing more than 72000 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.
PML-N candidate Malik Shehryar Awan emerged victorious in the by-polls held on Tuesday bagging 72071 votes, according to unofficial and unverified results from all 198 polling stations in the constituency.
He was followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominee Sultan Surkhru, who could manage to secure 49910 votes.
The voting process for the by-election began at 8.00 AM and ended at 5.00 PM.
During the by-election, a polling agent was injured in a clash between the PML-N and PTI workers at Thoha Marham Khan union council. Meanwhile, a PTI election camp was also uprooted reportedly by the PML-N workers.
As many as eight independent candidates contested Tuesday's by-polls on the seat, which fell vacant due to the demise of PML-N MPA Malik Zahoor.
The provincial constituency had registered 258,079 voters, including 121,152 women. A total of 198 polling stations, which include 15 separate polling stations for women were set up for Tuesday's by-election.
