However, sources said the suspect could apply for bail as he has been booked on a bail-able offence and thus may avoid spending time in the lockup.

On Tuesday, police arrested Sagheer from North Nazimabad after a complaint was filed against him by a citizen, Riazuddin, who said he had bought ‘pedigreed’ dogs from Sagheer but upon giving them a bath, the colour on their coat came off.

Gulberg SP Bashir Brohi said following the complaint, the police contacted Sagheer through an advertisement he posted on his website offering the sale of purebred dogs. The police later arrested him and recovered four ‘German Shepherds’ from his possession.

The police registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of Riazuddin.

Following his arrest, the accused told the police he and his accomplices would catch strays from the streets and paint over them to change their appearance to pass them of as ‘high quality’ dogs. They put the photos up online after which people contacted them and they would deliver the dogs at their doorsteps, he explained further, according to the police.
