ISLAMABAD: Qatar’s Prince Hamad bin Jasim bin Jaber Al-Thani has offered to record his statement at a neutral venue besides the invitation extended to JIT investigators to record his statement at his palace.

The prince’s latest offer comes in light of uncertainty that if he appears before the investigators at the Pakistan Embassy in Qatar or comes to Pakistan – as the JIT has been requesting – details of the closed door conversation may be leaked, which could undermine his royal position.

“One of JIT members was the one who was responsible to interrogate General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in a treason case. Please ask him to draw a comparison in this case. He used to stand outside his [Musharraf] house at Chak Shehzad in Islamabad and he [Musharraf] did not let him to get in. On the contrary this gentleman [Prince Hamad] has been the prime minister of Qatar and foreign minister. Does he not deserve some courtesy or respect? If JIT declines a questionnaire illegally, or ask him to come to Pakistani Embassy and tell him for a-six-hours session with video recording. He's aware of the situation regarding photo leakage [of Hussain Nawaz Sharif]. What do you expect from him [Prince Hamad]? They have been playing hide and seek with him [Prince] only to raise doubts because they have no evidence against [Sharifs’ family],” an old friend of the Al-Thani family told this correspondent via a text message from abroad.

This is the very reason Qatar's Prince Hamad Bin Jassim invited members of Panama’s JIT to visit his “Sheikh Palace” for answering questions pertaining to his family business' partnership with late Mian Mohammad Sharif, he added.

JIT members have written four letters to Prince Hamad asking him to appear before investigators to consider the verification and investigation of his previous letters important for Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Hassan Nawaz Sharif.

“Qatari Prince [Hamad bin Jassim] also asked for names of the JIT members and dates of their visit,” a close friend of Hussain Nawaz Sharif told this correspondent. JIT earlier this week wrote to Prince Hamad that “you have already formally and irrevocably accepted and submitted to the jurisdiction of the honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan and concomitantly the jurisdiction of the JIT.”

Al-Thani replied to letter by the JIT and the same will likely to be clubbed with JIT final report to be presented before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. A source close to the Sharif family, present in Doha for the past two days, confirmed the same to this correspondent. In its last communication to Al-Thani, the JIT considered the verification and investigation of Qatari prince’s letters important for Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Hassan Nawaz Sharif.
