ISLAMABAD: Reacting to the decision of the Supreme Court reserving its judgment in the Panama Papers case, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry said the case against the prime minister is political in nature.
Speaking to the media, Chaudhry said the prime minister has faced cases before. “We don’t care about the sentence, it is enough for us that our prime minister is Sadiq and Amin,” he said.
“Nawaz Sharif’s political opponents cannot defeat him in the political arena and thus have pinned their hopes with the court,” claimed the PML-N MNA.
He said it is not important what the decision will be, who gets punished and who is saved.
“The case against Nawaz Sharif is of completing the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, defeating terrorism and ending load-shedding in the country,” he added.
This fight is for Pakistan, it is not personal or for their egos, he claimed.
Reserving its judgement on Friday, the three member bench hearing the Panama Papers case observed that matters pertaining to the PM’s disqualification would be evaluated and the apex court would not back down from its decision.
During Friday’s hearing, the bench also directed for the confidential Volume X of the JIT report to be made available to the premier's counsel, Khawaja Harris. The judges remarked that they want to keep everything transparent.
The bench observed that it will operate strictly within the remits of the law and not trample anyone's individual rights.
