Adel al-Jubeir was to arrive in Pakistan today

ISLAMABAD: The visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir to Pakistan scheduled for today has been postponed, sources told Geo News Friday.

The sources said that Saudi foreign minister may visit India first on Saturday, adding that he is expected to arrive in Pakistan on Sunday.

They, however, said that details of the Jubeir's visit were still under consideration.

The two-day visit of the Saudi foreign minister is being planned according to the new schedule, the sources said.

The process of finalising the agenda of meetings during Jubeir's visit to Pakistan is also ongoing, they informed further.

The purpose of the Saudi minister's visit to Pakistan is to help de-escalate tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.

On Thursday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said his Saudi counterpart was coming to Pakistan with an important message from Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Tensions between India and Pakistan are at an all-time high following Indian incursions into Pakistani airspace and subsequent downing of two Indian aircraft by Pakistan Air Force.

Indian warplanes on Tuesday bombed a hilly forest area near the northern Pakistani town of Balakot, about 40 km (25 miles) from the Line of Control (LoC).

The next day Pakistan Air Force downed two Indian jets and captured an Indian Air Force pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Pakistan, however, released the captured pilot earlier today as a "gesture of peace".

But tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours prevail, with the United States and other global powers mediating to de-escalate them.
