ISLAMABAD: Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari said Thursday parents and teachers needed to understand children's feelings and emotions, specifically in the context of inappropriate touching and child abuse.

Speaking at an event on child abuse awareness at a school near Islamabad,Mazari urged teachers to encourage their students to speak out when someone touches them in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Children must know about good touch and bad touch, she said.

Also in attendance was Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, a member of the National Assembly (MNA).

Nawaz appreciated the human rights ministry's endeavours to create awareness about child abuse, which, he pointed out, was a universal phenomenon and most of the related cases go unreported.

The lawmaker further said the government was fully aware of the issue and making efforts to address it.
