Teenage pacer Naseem Shah was on Thursday overcome with emotions after he was handed his debut Test cap prior to the start of the opening Test against Australia in Brisbane.

The 16-year-old fast bowler had lost his mother last week but did not return home in order to fulfill his cricketing dream.

Bowling coach Waqar Younis put the green-coloured cap on Naseem amid a round of applause by his encircling teammate, following which the youngster was given hugs.

It was then that Naseem, who has garnered applause and admiring looks from all over due to his pace, line and length but more importantly, his heart, could not help but shed a few tears. He kissed the Pakistan badge on the cap and wiped off the tears.

The awarding of the first cap is a cricketing tradition for those making their debuts.

Naseem is the youngest ever cricketer to make his debut in Australia. He recently suffered the loss of his mother, which saw the emotions get the better of him as he prepared to play his first match for Pakistan.

Earlier on Monday, Pakistan captain Azhar Ali had said that Naseem would be picked in the starting line-up for the first Test.
