LAHORE: The electricity shortfall in the country continues and generation could not be increased due to non-payment and inadequate supply of oil to IPPs, Geo News reported. Several hours of loadshedding is taking place in cities across the country.
According to PEPCO, electricity generation is 14,336 MW while demand is 17,485 MW which has created a shortfall of 3,149 MW.
The spokesperson for PEPCO added that currently hydel is contributing 5,861 MW, thermal 2,135 MW while IPPs are contributing 6,203 MW to the national grid. Despite the shortfall KESC is being supplied 700 MW.
Presently 7-13 hours of loadshedding is taking place in cities while in rural areas the duration is 15 hours.
PEPCO claims that despite promises the government is not supplying oil.
