MULTAN: 'We live and die in borders of this land with Bhagwan as our witness, it's our motherland and we never think of betraying such a country which provided adequate shelter during worst time of our life.'
The impressive and deep sentiments were expressed by a a 105-year old, Hindu woman Meshri in connection with Independence Day of Pakistan. She was born at Kabootar Mandi, near Doulat Gate and determined not to leave the country even for a moment.
"We still remember buying flour at Rs 10 per maund and 4 paisa for buying Peepal tree (it is considered highly sacred in the Hindu religion).
She expressed sorrow over the increasing prices of daily use commodities, adding that it was affecting the purchasing power of common people.
When Pakistan came into being, they thought to migrate India and they changed the plan after assurance by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for providing equal rights to all citizens of the country, she recalled.
Shelloo, another oldest Hindu women said the situation in Pakistan was far better than today. "I can't forget the old memories when flour used to sell on two 'Anay per kg", she said and took a deep breath with saying that today's they are findingit even difficult to make both ends meet.
A couple, Pure Phool Meet and his wife Shanti said that unemployment, poverty and inflation have become common issues of the country. "It is not strange that we ourselves are fallenprey to such hazards", they said.
They have had seen "an era of good life" but today things have utterly changed. People lost faith, trust and tolerance to each other.
An over 100-year old couple, Guddo and Oranchoo wished for presence of leadership like Quaid-e-Azam in the country. They called him a true leader who worked for rights of masses and struggled to stand the country on its own feet.
Lala Ram and Parbhoram prayed to Bhagwan for peace, progress and fraternity in the country, for they believe that future of their next generations could be saved by the existence of these qualities in this soil.
