RAWALPINDI: An 'Iftar' dinner was hosted for needy, orphan and physically challenged and hearing impaired children studying at the Hassan Academy of Special Children.
The iftar dinner was organized by the Shahid Welfare Trust while renowned poet, Nasim Sehar was chief guest.
Addressing the participants and the children, he said that it was duty of every citizen to help these children as it was a noble cause.
He said one could earn respect for himself by feeding the needy and orphans not only in this world but also the world after.
Chairman, Shahid Welfare Trust, Mian Shahid Mehmood and Secretary General, Arshad Farooqi speaking on telephone from Bahrain expressed solidarity and unity with the special children.
Mian Shahid Mehmood also appreciated the services of Hassan Academy for making the special children a useful citizen.
He said special children were part of society and it was responsibility of everyone to play his role.
Principal of the Academy, Dr. Ahmed Hassan threw light on the performance of the Academy and said his academy was providing free education, shelter and food to special children for the last 18 years.
He informed that more than 160 physically challenged children were studying in the academy and a new building had been constructed at Adiala road to accommodate more such children.
Chairman, Educational Committee, Anjuman Faiz ul Islam, Prof Irfan Niaz said that taking part in such programs was really a sacred duty.
Some special children of the academy mesmerized the participants by reciting some verses of Holy Quran and presenting Naat.
Maj (R) Saleem Anwar, Tariq Mehmood Advocate and Mrs. Nasreen Akhtar also spoke on the occasion.
