KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said an indiscriminate action was being taken against criminals in the city under a policy of the government.
He said this while addressing a meeting jointly chaired by him and Interior Minister, Rehman Malik at CM House on Friday.
The meeting made a detailed deliberations on law and order situation in Karachi.
The Sindh CM said, "We are thankful to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for taking personal interest in law and order situation in Karachi.
The Prime Minister had presided a special meeting of Sindh Cabinet and decided to take strict action against terrorists and criminals, he recalled.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the Prime Minister had directed to take visible and transparent action against terrorists.
He informed the meeting that President Asif Ali Zardari regularly inquires progress report about Karachi situation. The provincial government sends reports to the President and the Prime Minister about the situation in Karachi.
Appreciating the performance of police and Rangers, he said the law enforcement agencies have arrested many terrorists from Karachi during last two to three days and the situation in the city is being returned to normalcy.
He informed the participants that the Eid holidays for LEAs have been canceled and they would also be assigned duties on Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure protection of life and property of the people.
He said Rs 1 million reward would be given to any man of LEAs, who would arrest any hardened criminal while the same reward would also be presented to any individual who would cooperate in arrest of the such a criminal.
He said heirs of martyred policemen in Chakra Goth tragedy would be given Rs 5 lac, each compensation and the injured would be given Rs 100,000, each.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said, "We have to restore the confidence of the traders and business community because the peaceful environment would help to promote trade and industrial activities.
He also lauded the efforts of Interior Minister, Rehman Malik for encouraging the law enforcement agencies in their action against terrorists.
He said the government would not spare the target killers, extortionists, land and drug mafia and other criminal elements and they would be brought to justice.
Addressing the meeting, Rehman Malik said the Sindh CM has played a significant role through his experience and vision to maintain peace in the city.
He said targeted action is being taken against terrorists in transparent manner.
He said the LEAs have arrested many criminals from different areas in the city while illegal arms have also been recovered from the accused.
Rehman Malik noted that many target killers have been apprehended during the surgical action against miscreants.
The Police and Rangers have arrested 20 suspects last night from various goths in the city and interrogation is underway.
He said the routine life and commercial activities are also being affected in the city due to violence.
The meeting also provided information about criminals and target killers to police, they would get reward while their identities would be kept secret.
Among other notables, Sindh Chief Secretary, Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional IG Police Karachi, Saud Mirza, all DIGs in Karachi and officials concerned were also present on the occasion.
