MULTAN: Speakers at a seminar on 'violence against women' stressed the government to ensure strict implementation of laws to ensure rights of women.

The seminar was held under the auspices of Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives and Gender Justice Protection Project.

Saadia Mumtaz advocate, highlighting different kinds of violence against women, said that women were facing immense problems due to social injustice in the country. She said that women had fewer chances of education, health and economic prosperity in the country. "There are a number of incidents of acid throwing on women in the country," she said and called for effective legislation against domestic violence against house-based workers.

She suggested the authority to check the free sale of acid. She also suggested that the authority should devise a system of check-up in case of rape without interference of police.

Renowned intellectual and poet Raziuddin Razi called for awareness among women by arranging seminars, workshops and other programmes.

Rashid Rehman advocate stressed proper rehabilitation and provision of facilities to distressed women.
