RAWALPINDI: Traffic wardens should behave with people travelling on roads in a polite and respectful way and their misbehavior will not be tolerated, said Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ghulam Abbas Tarar while addressing a big Darbar of Traffic Wardens, held here in Hassan Complex, Police Line No-1. On this occasion, Deputy Superintendents Police (DSPs) of all circles and sector in- charges were also present.

Tarar said the wardens by their polite behaviour could strengthened the impression of a well-mannered and disciplined warden force.

He also directed to all traffic wardens to educate and guide the citizens regarding the traffic rules and regulations. He said all possible facilities should also be provided to the citizens on the roads by the traffic wardens.

CTO said all out efforts should be made to eliminate traffic violations on the city roads. "We will have to work hard for the smooth flow of traffic," he said.

He made it clear on all the traffic wardens that citizens should not be disturbed without reason and should only be asked to stop if they commit a traffic offence.

SSP said traffic police officers should keep a vigilant eye on the traffic rules violations so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against the violators particularly against negligent and dangerous driving.

Though there are certain problems being faced by the traffic wardens to regulate traffic, he said adding encroachments on roads are also worsening the situation of smooth traffic flow but, "We will have to work together for the betterment of traffic on city roads." He said that though, there is no target for issuing of challan tickets but traffic violators should not be spared and action in this regard must be taken without any discrimination.

"I will be on the city roads with wardens to review the traffic situation and for briefing the citizens regarding traffic rules and other steps to bring improvement so that all issues being confronted currently could be addressed properly," he said.

Ghulam Abbas Tarar said traffic wardens should also guide the citizens about road safety and traffic rules to create a better traffic sense.

He further said the choice of traffic wardens regarding transfers / posting would be given due attention and assured that their problems would be resolved on priority basis.

CTO said that on better performance, special certificates and awards would be given.

The Chief Traffic Officer listened to the problems of wardens and also disseminated information about dengue fever. A comprehensive briefing on preventive measures and other precautionary steps to prevent the disease was also given.
