ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister for National Harmony, Dr Paul Bhatti has inaugurated One Room Shelter scheme for ensuring security, safety and physical protection to flood affected families at Rahim Yar Khan.
The shelters have been established at the cost of 1.5 million Euros encompassing 13 union councils and targeting a total of 1000 households to receive one room permanent shelter, said a news release issued here Tuesday.
It will focus on better hygiene practices for flood-affectees to reduce the water borne diseases and skin infections to create a health family environment and reduce the risk of diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Paul asked the national and international communities to look at the issues of poverty alleviation from the perspective of the poor and emphasized the importance of enhancing capabilities of the poor to lift themselves out of poverty.
The Adviser called for detailed research and analysis of current social welfare practices to better define future programmes in terms of inventive, proper targeting and structural issues of labour mobility in the context of need and demands locally and globally.
He said about two-third of impoverished people in the world live in middle-income countries and they are mainly rural residents, those living in slums, indigenous peoples, minority ethnic people, and the disabled.
He stressed on the need for creating employment opportunities for the marginalized people in public services and social welfare in order to eliminate poverty. (APP)
