Free fertilizer distributed

FAISALABAD: Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad has distributed 140 bags of fertilizer free of cost among poor farmers of a rain-stricken locality of Khushpur here.

According to spokesman of this NGO, their activists were striving for early rehabilitation of people in flood-hit and rain-stricken areas.

"Fertilizers prices have shot steeply in the market and small farmers, especially those living in flood-hit and rain-stricken areas could not buy them", he said.

He said that the abrupt increase in the prices of fertilizer from Rs. 950/- to Rs. 2200/- per bag has disappointed the farmers as well as the traders.

Many farmers and landowners decided not to cultivate anything in future, simply due to non-availability and high prices, he regretted. Therefore, Caritas decided to choose deserving farmers for distribution of fertilizers.

"Initially 140 bags of fertilizers were distributed among 40 poor farmers of Chak No.226-GB", he explained. (APP)
