FAISALABAD: In wake of increasing number of inmates, the Punjab government has decided to upgrade various judicial lockups of the province to sub-prison level.

According to a spokesman of the Prisons Department, there are a total 56 judicial lockups in Punjab, of them 16 judicial lockups will be raised to the level of Sub-Jail.

Among these lockups include Sammundri, Jaranwala, Nankana Sahib, Bhera, Pindi Camp, Issa Khail, Jampur and Narowal.

He said that sub-jails would help in accommodating 150-200 inmates. However, the criminals involved in heinous crimes would not be housed in these sub-jails.

In this connection, necessary instructions have been issued while high-ups of Prisons Department will view and inspect the buildings, boundary walls and other necessary items at these Judicial Lockups before converting them into sub-jails, he added. (APP)
