RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police (CTP) took stern actionagainst the violators particularly on eve of new year and impounded 197 vehicles and motorcycles in the jurisdiction of various police stations.
As many as 687 vehicles were issued challan tickets with fine amountingto over Rs 98,000.
CTP had launched special drive against wheeling and check violations of traffic rules on new year night, said City Traffic Officer (CTO) Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ghulam Abbas Tarar.
He said special teams were deployed to check wheeling and control rash and dangerous driving on New Year night with deployment of special squads being supervised by Senior Officer Traffic, Syed Ishtiaq Shah.
Syed Ishtiaq Shah told that City Traffic Police in its operation against one-wheeling, rash and dangerous driving took stern action.
Ghulam Abbas Tarar said traffic police officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, traffic officials were deployed at various points.
The traffic officers and circle heads had been directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one should be spared if found involved in this dangerous act, which is a cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders.
He said one-wheelers are not only playing with their own lives but they are also a threat for other road users. He said the traffic wardens were directed to take effective measures in this regard. (APP)
