ISLAMABAD: Commuters are facing problems due to shortage of public transport on different routes within twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

A large number of private and government employees coming from suburbs of the capital, often come across the travelling problems due to rush in public transport during peak hours.

Shazia Sadiq a government employee has said the female commuters especially had to wait for long to find a proper seat. This wait occasionally result in our reaching the offices behind the schedule.

She demanded that concerned authorities should ensure sufficient transport facility on the specific routes to meet the requirements of the commuters. She also complained the misuse of front seats of vehicles which are designated for the female passengers as most often these seats are occupied by the male passengers.

Another commuter Aftab Khan, complained that his lot of time is wasted while waiting for space in public transport as during peak hours almost every vehicle is overloaded with passengers.

Students waiting at I-8 signal were facing the same problem the other way as they have complained of the shortly age of school and college buses making them to depend on public transport.

Commuters further complained that women and aged persons are usually ignored barring them of their right to board the public transport plying on different routes between twin cities.

Thousands of passengers travel daily by public transport but their problems are yet to be resolved.

Commuters have demanded of the concerned authorities to start new routes between twin cities and introduce a viable and comfortable transport system to ferry the passengers to various destinations within the twin cities. (APP)
