Queen Elizabeth II would remain head of state in an independent Scotland, the Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Ian Blackford has confirmed.
The SNP leader at Westminter, while rejecting the claims that an independent Scotland could have a referendum on whether to retain the monarchy, said “The Queen will remain head of state in an independent Scotland.”
According to the Herald Scotland, the SNP policy ahead of the 2014 referendum on independence was to retain the Queen as head of state if Scotland declared independence, however, since then many members have called for the issue to be decided by a ballot in the future.
Responding to a question when asked about the prospect of a referendum, Blackford confirmed that the Queen would remain head of state in an independent Scotland.
