Altaf calls Gilani, assures support to govt

KARACHI: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani got a boost from his major allied partner the Muttahida Qaumi Movement when its leader Altaf Hussain called him from London on Friday stating that the party supports him in these days of crisis.

The Thursday’s conviction of Prime Minister Gilani by a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court has sparked a heated debate on legal and constitutional affairs.

In a telephonic conversation, he extended his support to the prime minister and said that for a stable democracy and supremacy of the Constitution, the MQM stands behind the premier.

The PM thanked Altaf for his gesture of solidarity. Altaf assured his full support to the prime minister for the continuity of democratic system and its stability.
