ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday appointed former secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control, Zafar Abbas Luk, as Inspector General Motorway Police (IGMP), Geo News reported.
Luk will replace the retiring IGMP, Wajid Durrani, sources told Geo News.
On the other hand, Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari, an Officer of Police Service of Pakistan, was been appointed as Director General DG), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), whereas Javed Iqbal, another Officer of Police Service of Pakistan, as Secretary, Ministry of Narcotics Control.
Earlier, the PPP government had also appointed Luk , a junior Grade 21 officer, against the important Grade 22 post of director general of the Federal Investigations Agency (FIA).
Luk is one of the accused in ephedrine case, also involving Ali Musa Gilani, a son of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) in its inquiry report, submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, had alleged that Luk was trying to sabotage the inquiry process, and the Ministry of Narcotics Control had been asking the ANF to stop its inquiry and also stop proceedings in the Supreme Court.
Luk’s whole career is full of controversies. He has NAB corruption references against him and is accused of acting on directions of his political masters. Recently he defied the superior judiciary’s orders in the ephedrine scandal in which he made every effort to save the powerful elite involved in the narcotics scandal.
