Gwen Stefani has recently opened up about her approach to making music.
According to PEOPLE report, during an interview with NYLON magazine, Stefani shared her perspective on not being driven by the pursuit of creating hit songs.
"A lot of the pop writers that I'd worked with started getting really different from the way I write. I was like, 'Why are you counting syllables?' Or they were trying so hard to go for a hit, where I'm like: 'I'm not chasing that," she said.
"A hit is the greatest thing in the world, but it has to come naturally," the Rich Girl singer further emphasized her desire for authenticity in her music.
Despite having achieved success in her career, with numerous Top 40 hits, Stefani mentioned the challenge of choosing which songs to perform.
"If I had another hit, that means I need to remove a hit [from my live shows], I'm not going to play for three hours! So I've already won," the Just a Girl hitmaker joked.
Stefani described music as her 'purpose' and candidly shared her feelings of being 'chosen' to continue this path, despite any external expectations or pressures.
