Fact-check: False claim regarding Iddat case judge circulates on social media

An official of Islamabad court, two lawyers confirmed that man in the video is not Judge Afzal Majoka

A video making the rounds on social media claims to show two women with Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka, who on June 27 rejected pleas seeking suspension of sentences of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife in the iddat (unlawful marriage) case.

The claim is false. The man in the video is not the judge.

Claim

On June 29, a Facebook account posted a screenshot taken from a private video showing a man with two women and wrote: “The Honourable Judge Afzal Majoka.”

More screenshots from the video were shared with users claiming the images were of the judge.

An official of the district and sessions court in Islamabad, and two lawyers confirm that the man in the video is not Judge Majoka.

Muhammad Siddique, the administration superintendent of the district and session court in Islamabad, told Geo Fact Check that the online claims were false.

Geo Fact Check then contacted Murtaza Hussain Turi, the lawyer who represented Imran Khan, and Zahid Asif Chaudhry, the counsel of Khawar Farid Maneka. Both lawyers had appeared in the judge’s court recently in the iddat case.

They both told Geo Fact Check that the man in the video was not Majoka.

Additionally, Arfa Feroz Zake, a Geo News journalist who had been covering the unlawful marriage case, also told Geo Fact Check that the online claims were incorrect.

Zake also confirmed that the actual image of the judge was as below. The same was confirmed by the two lawyers.
