KARACHI: Dawoodi Bohra community head Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has chosen Karachi as the venue for the annual 10-day Muharram congregations — known as Ashara Mubaraka in the community.

The Pakistani government and the Dawoodi Bohra community in Pakistan extended an official invitation to Saifuddin earlier this month to conduct Ashara Mubaraka sermons in the country.

Ashara Mubaraka is a period of 10 days dedicated to remembering Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his grandson Imam Husain (RA), and his family and companions. This period honours their valorous stand for the universal values of justice, truth and humanity.

Speaking on the arrangements made, Shabbir Harianawala, a coordinator from the Karachi Dawoodi Bohra community, said: "Over 80,000 Dawoodi Bohras from Pakistan and overseas are expected to attend the Ashara Mubaraka congregation."

"We are working closely with government authorities and local organisations including neighbours to ensure that our guests are taken care of in the best possible manner during their stay in Karachi. Our aim is to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for all attendees."

Last time Syedna Mufaddal led the Muharram congregations in Karachi in 2017.
