Jamie Foxx recently got candid and opened up about how his daughter Anelisa helped save his life.
On Tuesday, December 10, Foxx’s Netflix special show What Had Happened Was premiered, where the Oscar-winning star talked about his April 2023 medical emergency.
He revealed that he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke and discussed his recovery.
At one point in the show, Foxx shared that his 16-year-old daughter Anelise helped him during a time in the hospital when it was "touch and go."
Calling to mind his time in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, the Robin Hood actor quipped, "They said at one point, the first 15 days, they thought they were going to lose me because my vitals were out of control."
He added, “There was a 13- or 14-day period where they said, ‘We’ve gotta keep him calm, and we’ve given him every medication that they could. It’s not working, we gotta keep him calm because his vitals are so high we’re going to lose him.'"
Then Foxx went on to jokingly articulate, "Do you know what the worst thing to have in a hospital room is when you’re trying to keep calm? Black family members.”
"That’s when a miracle happened, and that miracle was working through my youngest daughter. She’s 14. I didn’t want her to see me like that, but she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar, and she said, ‘I know what my daddy needs … that’s my daddy,’” the star of Any Given Sunday continued.
Moving forward, Foxx was moved to tears when he reminisced over his youngest daughter’s action, highlighting, "They said when she was playing, my vitals went down. The nurses at the nurses station were baffled. Like, 'Wow, what did they give him?' They rushed into the room, and she said, ‘Ssh. I got him.’ ... Do you know what I found out? That God was in that guitar. That’s my spiritual defibrillator."
He then invited Anelise onto the stage with her guitar, and they shared a tearful hug before she began to play.
With tearful eyes, the actor told his daughter, "Play, play, play. Let them see your talent, shine, Anelise, shine, baby.”
After her performance, Foxx turned to Anelise and showed gratitude to her in his tearful voice, saying, "Anelise, thank you so much for stepping up when all was lost."
"You had to make it because I always dreamed that we’d perform together onstage one day," Anelise concluded by replying before the father-daughter duo began performing about his medical emergency as Foxx rapped and Anelise played the guitar.
