Andy Morrison, brother of singer Jim Morrison, opened up about the latter on the 50th anniversary of his death.

The people closest to the singer were interviewed for the documentary Before the End: Searching for Jim Morrison.

Jim tragically passed away at the age of 27 back in July 1971, on which Andy remarked, “His lifestyle [killed him]. Obviously he drank too much. I think by that time he was overweight and, you know, if you’re not in good health and you drink too much and dabble in some drugs, it’s not that hard to do.”

Following a climbing aversion to fame, Jim had moved to Paris after performing a final show in 1970.

“I think he actually wanted to get back into some serious writing. And maybe he’d outgrown the Doors thing, had been enough,” Andy stated, “Whether he was 100% done, I think not. I think he just needed a break.”

The cause of his death had been ruled a heart attack because of which an autopsy never ended up getting performed.

The documentary explores the possibility that the singer had actually faked his death. It is now available on several streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
